How To Grow Lion’s Mane

Step 1 – Prepare the substrate

With a small household weighing scale, add 500g of soybean husk and hardwood fuel pellets into a mixing bag. Then add 1.5 Liters of water to the dry ingredients.

Create a suitable humid environment before packing and ensure that the moisture content in all the bags is equal and then close the mouths of the bags but do not seal.

Step 2. Fold Grow Bags For Sterilization

Fold the bags regularly so that the bags become more sterile. Make sure the folding is done correctly. Bags that are folded correctly do not need to be sealed before sterilization.

Step 3. Sterilize Grow Bags

Place the folded bags in a pot and sterilize them in boiling water for 90 minutes. Then wait until the pressure in your pot decreases and the pot cools down.

Step 4. Inoculate With Grain Spawn

Bags can be inoculated with the grain spawning method after receiving the necessary cold air. 

Add an average of 200g of Lions Mane spawn to a 2.5 kg bag. 

Be careful not to shake the bags too much. If they are shaken too much, they may not fully ripen inside the bag. 

Step 5. Seal Bag & Wait

In order to prevent the entry of all kinds of mold and bacteria, the mouth of the bags should be carefully sealed after inoculation. You should use a suitable sealer to seal the bags.

Step 6. Opening The Grow Bag

After the Lion’s Mane is colonized, you can open the bag. After opening the bag, squeeze the bag from the bottom to get the maximum amount of air out. In addition, the grow bag should be re-folded or taped.

Step 7. Store In A Fruiting Chamber

You can now place the Lion’s Mane in a greenhouse or a specially prepared room. Create the required moist environment and check the humidity regularly. 

If you have a narrow space, you can use a plastic crate. You can steam the walls of your room up to twice a day to increase the ambient humidity. If your walls are turning yellow, this is an indication of low humidity.

How Long Does it Take to Grow Lion’s Mane?

Growing Lion’s Mane mushrooms at home take around 6-12 weeks.

If you are growing Lion’s Mane on a log, your Lion’s Mane will grow within 1-2 years after grafting, but you will see a higher yield.
